During July and August some members also meet up for outdoor outings.
Please keep an eye on the programme as there may be a few updates.
14th July 2025 - Summer Outing - Dursley
Let's meet in Dursley around 7:15pm to 7:30pm in the May Lane car park which is actually on Hill Road, GL11 4JN. I believe the car park is free, but please check the signs. I don't know Dursley too well apart from The Old Spot Inn and Clifton Cameras, but here is what the council website has to say... Originally renowned for its woollen cloth, Dursley later became known for its world-famous Lister-Petter engines and of course Mikael Pedersen and his distinctive bicycle. Its rich history is preserved today by the many fine buildings located in the town, including Jacob's House and The Priory and also by the information and artefacts held in its Heritage Centre. It may have even been home, for a time, for The Bard, William Shakespeare! When we have completed our photographic exploits I hope we will be able to retire to the Old Spot, right opposite the car park where we met. I am awaiting confirmation from the management. https://www.dursleytowncouncil.gov.uk/visit-dursley https://www.oldspotinn.co.uk/

Types of Event
External speaker: A speaker brought in from outside the club. Often but not always from the lists of speakers provided by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) or Western Counties Photographic Federation (WCFP). Topics vary a great deal from discussions of photographic techniques or genres to travelogues or how the speaker prepared submissions for awards, exhibitions or salons.
Internal Speaker: An equally varied range of subjects as for "External Speakers" but with the presentation given by a member of the club. He or she could be an experienced presenter or a novice.
Competition: We have five or six internal photographic competitions in a season, with images commented on and placed by an external judge, usually from lists provided by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) or Western Counties Photographic Federation (WCFP). We also enter several external competitions each year. Some of these competitions are regional or national but there are two local ones: the Three Way Battle, a fun match between ourselves, Sodbury and Yate Camera Club and Crossbow Camera Club; and the Tom Crowe Challlenge, named after a former Chairman of Thornbury Camera Club which sees around ten clubs compete for a trophy.
Magazine Evening: A number of club members give short presentations on a variety of topics.
Photo Clinic: An opportunity for individual members to ask other members for specific types of feedback on their images.
AV: A show of still or moving images with a soundtrack or commentary, often an exhibition held by an external organisation such as the N&EMPF Exhibition.
Flexible Evening: The intention is to leave some breathing space in the programme where we can introduce topics or meeting formats to address the needs or interests of members that arise during the season rather than having to delay them until the next year. We already have some ideas about how these might be filled, but we are always listening to your ideas and requirements.
Outing: We meet elsewhere to the club's usual venue, primarily in the summer between the end of one club season and the start of the next, but it could be at any time of the year, either on a club night (Monday) or at any other time, usually for the joint purposes of photography and social meet-up.
